“A Rainbow in the Sky”, an outdoor installation by Daniel Buren
August 8 – November 15, 2009, One Colorado Courtyard, Pasadena, California
Objective: Internationally celebrated artist Daniel Buren is creating a large-scale site-specific art work in the One Colorado Courtyard.
“A Rainbow in the Sky” consists of thousands of colorful pennant flags hovering over this busy pedestrian square in Pasadena. Buren’s design plays with the elegant architectural space and introduces a rainbow of color, with the flags suspended like an open “ceiling” over the viewer’s head. The pennants flutter in a multitude of colors, casting thousands of moving shadows on the spectators below.
One of France’s most famous contemporary artists and creator of such works as Les colonnes de Buren at Le Palais Royal in Paris, Buren is a welcome addition to the Los Angeles art scene. The installation is free and open to the public.
